Staying Power - Reviewing My Recent Long-Wearing Lipsticks

Even though I've always been more of a lip gloss kind of girl I'm addicted to buying lipsticks. I *want* to be a lipstick girl. You know what I'm talking about...that girl who looks perfectly DONE and polished and then you suddenly realize it's because she's defined her lips and chosen the prefect shade of lipstick. Sigh - I so wish.

I've also been on a quest lately to look more polished at work and having a great lip seems to be a major part of that for me. I want my make-up to look grown-up and professional. That calls for lipstick. Preferably the long-wearing kind so I'm not having to reapply every time I turn around.

But as any make-up maven knows, long-wearing lipsticks are totally hit and miss. They can last For-ev-er but then be so drying that the product gums up on your lips. Or the kind that really doesn't last past that first cup of coffee. It always seems like a give and take that always ends in not being satisfied with your lipstick choice.

Recently I've tested a few long-wearing lipsticks and thought I would share my thoughts and name my best of the bunch. Some of the products were already in my cosmetics bag and some I'd just bought.

Cover Girl Outlast All Day Lipcolor- This was my least favorite of the bunch. It has really good staying power, but does suffer from the gumming up problem after a few hours. It feels good going on, dries out like all long-wearing formulas, and then the clear overcoat goes on and your lips rejoice. For a little while. Then they are dry and gummy. And it is insanely drying. Like cracked my lips, couldn't get the color off and even after multiple applications of chap stick my lips still felt like I'd been in the desert without water for days.

Cover Girl Outlast Double Lipshine - This lipstick went on and dried pretty fast. When I added the clear gloss on top it really did offer some series shine and looked fabulous. And then instant gummy beads. This was my so-so choice of the 3 long-wearing lipsticks I tried so far this week. Within 10 minutes I noticed that tiny beads of color where being left on my coffee cup. My lipstick was balling up and coming off almost instantly. I did think that had stained my lips so it did give the illusion of still having lipstick on. Sort of.

Maybelline SuperStay 14HR Lipstick - My new favorite long-wearing lipstick! This was a new purchase and I hadn't seen or heard any real reviews on it so I went in totally blind. It went on creamy! Seriously. It's the only long-wearing lipstick I've ever tried that went on smooth. It also doesn't have a clear gloss so I was super worried about drying. My lips did feel slightly tight, but not really dry and almost just like wearing any other regular lipstick instead of a long-wearing one. It also didn't gum up or bead at all. So smooth, not drying and no beading...awesome! My only issue with it was that although it did stain the lips, it didn't totally last 14 hours. I'd say it lasted about 3-4 with full lipstick look and then you have to reapply or just be happy with a slight stained looked. I did love the color choices and that some shades were matte and others glossy and even frosted.

Have you tried the Maybelline 14HR Lipstick? What did you think? If not, what is your favorite long-wearing lipstick and why? Help me on my quest to becoming a lipstick girl!

For the past few seasons no other designer has caught my attention the way Elie Saab has. Every single gown is a stunner! Not to mention I want everything else in every collection. Check out these stunners from his past few collections.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Elie Saab? Is there a designer who you think does glam gowns best? Let me know so I can add to my day-dreaming of a place to wear one of these beauties to!

Love Outlet Deals? There's an App For That!

Now I'll be the first to admit that not all outlets are created equal. In fact, there are some designer labels that create entirely seperate lines just for thier outlet stores which always makes me feel a little duped. I mean I go to the designer outlet because I LIKE that designer and am looking for mark-downs on their last season's clothes. I don't want the equivalent of a cheap knock-off!

I've always wondered if they realize that they are not putting their best foot forward by creatign these cheaper clothes and that many consumers just don't realize that the level of quality they are getting at the outlet isn't what they would get with the regular line.

Okay, off that soapbox! Because what I really want to talk about are those really awesome deals and steals you can find at some great outlet stores if you just know which ones to go to.

Some of my favorite stores can be found in the Tanger Outlet centers. Now there isn't a location right near me, but there is one on our way to my in-laws so I make it a point to stop there a few times a year. Imagine my excitement then to discover that Tanger Outlets now has their very own app! It even has some really cool functionality for us stylish girls looking for great bargins. 5 Positive Resolutions for 2012

It's that time. When we all look at our lives and figure out what we'd like to fix or improve about ourselves. Most of the time we make resolutions to take on what we see as negatives in our lives, but this year I'm pledging to do something different. No more damn depressing resolutions that reinforce something not so great about me.

Instead, I'm going to focus on the things I love and enjoy about me and my life and pledge to do them more often. To embrace more joy in life and in myself.

Instead of thinking of things as changes, I want to think of them as doing more of what I love. For instance, instead of creating a resolution to look more put together at work since sometimes I do find myself rushing through getting ready and feel frumpy, I'll instead say that I would like to wear more scarves and other accessories in 2012. I love scarves and have tons of awesome jewelry, shoes and bags so by adding more of these to my outfits everyday I'll be much happier. And look more put together. But the focus is on being happy!

So with that in mind, here are my 2012 Resolutions:

  1. Accessorize Everyday - I'll wear something special to put a smile on my face all day
  2. Take More Baths - I'll take advantage of my awesome tub and really girly-girly it up with bubbles, face masks, hair masks, etc. Don't forget the wine and a great book!
  3. Sunset Walks With Hubby - The Husband. Fresh air. Unplugged. Lovely Neighborhood and Conversation. What's not to love!
  4. Wear THE Shoes & Bags - I bought them. I love them. I'll wear them, be happy and forget the price tags.
  5. Be Adventurous in the Kitchen - I love to cook and want to try out new recipes every week.
What about you - What positive things do you love that you want to pledge to do more of in 2012? Put a positive spin and attitude on changes you can make with a good outlook that will take care of some of those not so great parts of your life.
